History
Aftermath Excursion is a metal/thrash band originating from Cape Town, South Africa. It was always a dream for Ian to form a band like this, but had many failed attempts. His passion to attempt again was inspired when he started to play bass for a hard rock cover band, High Voltage SA.

In December 2012 the early stages of the band came into existence. Initially Ian’s brother in law, Aynsley joined on the drums and they approached a mutual friend, Phil for vocals. He also took up the role of bassist and Ian took the role of guitarist.

In June 2013 Jared, a long-time friend of Ian’s joined on rhythm guitar which brought about a bone crunching guitar sound the band had been looking for.

In October 2013 Aynsley had to take leave of AE due to personal reasons.

For the debut album, all the music and lyrics were written by Ian. The song was then sent to the band members and then they would run through it and propose changes or tweaks until all were happy. The one no compromise rule with music was that the song had to be something the band members themselves would want to listen to had they heard it somewhere.
The lyrical content focused mainly around the state of the world today, the negative aspects of humanity. A few of the songs had an overlay of a Science Fiction/Fantasy Fiction theme to them.

Early in 2014 Aftermath Excursion were approached by Grammy nominated and multi Emmy award winning Producer/Artist Brian Lanese, based in Los Angeles, California (USA). All songs on the debut album were engineered by Brian Lanese and mixed and mastered by Dan Thomas.

On world animal day October 4 2015 the band released their single – Culling Time in an attempt to help raise awareness and funds for anti-poaching.
One 1 December 2015 their debut album “It’s all gone” was released with artwork created by Jared.
April 2016 the song “Time” peaked at number 4 on the Zone Radio Top 40.

In September 2016 Ian's brother in law, Aynsley rejoined the band as did Ian's brother, Brian, taking over on bass duties from Phil.

In January 2017 Jared needed to become an inactive band member for personal reasons.

In February 2018 Ian relocated to England and is in the process of writing and recording new material.

Prior to moving the band attempted to test recording from different locations and it did not quite work for the band. As such Aynsley, Brian, Jared and Phil are inactive members of the band, but Aftermath Excursion still considers them to be family.

The band are also currently a non touring band and will remain that way at least until after the situation within South Africa improves.
